BACOLOD City – The city council seeks the implementation of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) “Oplan Kalusugan Program.”
The city council approved last week a resolution that Councilor Sonya Verdeflor authored.
The resolution is urging Schools Division Superintendent Cynthia Dimavivas to start implementing the Oplan Kalusugan Program in the city.
The Oplan Kalusugan Program recognizes the role of all DepEd health personnel in delivering quality, accessible and relevant education to strengthen the drug education campaign, and adolescent reproductive health and water sanitation and hygiene programs.
Education secretary Leonor Briones recently launched the program. The launch was attended by more than 1,000 DepEd health personnel nationwide.
The program is a “converging effort where health plans, policies, programs, and activities are implemented to ensure that all school children are provided with basic primary health and dental care to allow them to attain their full educational potential,” the resolution stated.
It added, “The program will also ensure that all DepEd school health personnel and school children practice healthier behavior that they can do on their own, and get linked up with health providers and local government units for child and adolescent health services.”
The program will take its full implementation in July this year.
Moreover, the city council requested Dimavivas to strictly implement DepEd Department Order 131 series of 2016, which requires all school divisions across the country to train and designate child protection specialists.
Verdeflor said the child protection specialists will provide technical guidance on serious cases of child abuse at schools.
The child protection specialists will also recommend action to address the problem based on the existing child protection laws and related DepEd issuances./PN
