CEBU City – Dumlog Bridge in Sibonga, Cebu, will be rebuilt more than two years after it was destroyed by flood at the height of a typhoon.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 7 will take charge of the reconstruction.
The project will cost P60 million, which was taken from DPWH central office’s calamity funds, said Engineer Nonie Paylado, chief of planning and design at the agency’s regional office.
With the funds already released, construction may start in the first quarter of 2017, but the project must undergo public bidding first, Paylado said.
The bridge’s 18-meter approach collapsed and was washed away by a flash flood during tropical storm “Seniang” in December 2014.
Due to the flood’s impact, the rip-rapped soil and rocks that formed part of the road were also washed away.
The incident isolated eight southern Cebu towns, prompting the DPWH to build a temporary steel bailey bridge on top of the damaged one. (PNA)
