BACOLOD City – A dermatologist caught sniffing suspected shabu in a hotel room on corner San Juan-Luzuriaga streets in Barangay 13 was released from detention.
Police were unable to file the drug-related charges against the 39-year-old Dr. Andrew Corrompido (not Tolentino, as previously reported) within the 36-hour reglementary period.
They lacked affidavits from the hotel’s front desk officers, which the prosecutor required.
But Police Station 1 is still pursuing the charges for violation of sections 11, 12 and 15 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, said Senior Inspector Eugene Tolentino, station commander.
Corrompido of Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City (not Barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City) is currently working in a shopping mall in Bacolod, police said.
Front desk officers of the hotel called Police Station 1 on Monday, April 10 to report that the dermatologist has not come out of his room for three days.
Police Station 1 officers responded at around 11:40 a.m. Hotel personnel opened the door of Corrompido’s room (police officers did not forcibly open the door, contrary to a previous report) and caught the doctor in the act of sniffing suspected shabu, said Tolentino.
A plastic pack of suspected shabu and an improvised tooter was seized from the doctor.
Police officers arrested Corrompido and hauled him to their station’s lockup cell but had to release him on Tuesday./PN
