BACOLOD City – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has allowed the manufacture of firecrackers in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.
Seven manufacturers have complied with labor requirements, DOLE-Negros Island Region officer-in-charge Cyril Ticao said.
The DOLE-Negros recommended to Secretary Silvestre Bello III that the work stoppage order against the manufacture of firecrackers and pyrotechnics in Hinigaran be lifted.
But Ticao stressed that the order is “good as lifted” once a Labor department’s local office makes the recommendation.
“We are just waiting for the reply of the central office,” the official said. “Pero good as approved naman na basta gin-recommend namon.”
On the other hand, 27 retailers in the town were expected to submit their compliance requirements Monday next week, Dec. 19, Ticao said.
The DOLE issued the work stoppage order to ensure manufacturers and retailers comply with general labor and occupational safety and health standards.
Hinigaran mayor Nadie Arceo urged firecracker manufacturers in this town to shift into fireworks production.
“It is less dangerous,” Arceo claimed, adding that he was willing to provide them training./PN
