DOT-6 presents Boracay update to Chinese Consul

ILOILO City – The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 6 was one of the presenters during the meeting with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China on Feb. 28, at Gypsea Shack Restaurant, Boracay Island.

The meeting aimed to discuss issues relating to Chinese tourists visiting the island.

DOT presented updates on the rehabilitation efforts in the island, partial data on tourist arrivals in Western Visayas, Boracay Top 5 tourist market, Cruise ship policy and Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force guidelines.

“We are happy that Boracay is a destination of choice of Chinese tourists. For two consecutive years Chinese visitors have the highest market share.” DOT-6 Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Atty. Sedfrey L. Cabaluna said

During an open forum, Atty. Cabaluna clarified that in order to regulate tourists entering the island, tourist must book at compliant hotel and present booking voucher at Caticlan Jetty Port.

Consul General Lou Gang expressed his sincere gratitude for the continuous support given to the Chinese Embassy in assisting Chinese tourists in Boracay.

Rear Admiral Leonardo Tirol, Psupt. Ryan Manongdo, Psupt. Anthony Dizon and representatives from Malay LGU were also present to answer other related questions./PN
