ROXAS City – A drug suspect shot a member of an antidrug police unit here during a sting operation in Barangay 6.
Police Officer 2 Hansel Gevero was hit on the stomach. He was taken to the Capiz Emmanuel Hospital.
The drug suspect, Belly Juanico of Barangay Lawaan, fired at Gevero using a .45 pistol while running away.
Police Officer 2 Lazaro Sereneo, a poseur buyer, transacted a drug purchase with Juanico around 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 1.
But Juanico sensed the former was a policeman. He pushed Sereneo away and ran while drawing a gun from his waist. He then shot Gevero, the backup entrapment officer who tried to block him.
“We did not expect Juanico was armed,” Sereneo stressed. “That was why Gevero did not draw out his firearm.”
Juanico escaped and remained at large as of this writing, while Gevero was still confined in the hospital and recuperating.
Gevero and Sereneo were officers of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group led by Senior Inspector Efren Yu-ing./PN
