KALIBO, Aklan – Warning drug suspects to stop trafficking illegal drugs is not enough. Or so it appears.
Four drug suspects, including two who turned themselves in to the police as part of Oplan Tokhang, were arrested recently.
Oplan Tokhang was part of Oplan Double Barrel, the police’s intensified antidrug campaign. It involves officers visiting identified drug suspects, warning them to stop their illicit trade and urging them to surrender.
“Despite our efforts to give them a chance to reform, some surrenderees keep getting back into the drug trade,” lamented Chief Inspector Terence Paul Sta. Ana, municipal police chief.
One of the surrenderees was the 20-year-old John Paul Raz of Barangay Andagao.
Raz was arrested after selling dried marijuana leaves to a police poseur buyer around 2:15 p.m. on Sept. 30.
Aside from the marijuana in a rolled paper, a mobile phone and a P500 marked money were seized from him.
An alleged cohort, the 19-year-old Bob Ryan Tayco of Barangay Andagao, was arrested.
Tayco also yielded dried marijuana leaves. His motorcycle and mobile phone were seized, too.
In Malinao, antidrug operatives caught another surrenderee around 2:50 p.m. on Sept. 29 in Barangay Rosario.
The 44-year old motorcycle driver Donel Ortega sold a sachet of suspected shabu for P1,000 to a poseur buyer.
Ortega further yielded 10 empty plastic sachets and a mobile phone, said Senior Inspector Alfonso Manoba Jr., municipal police chief.
On the same day in Boracay, a 37-year-old photographer from New Lucena, Iloilo was caught in a drug buy-bust operation in Barangay Manoc-manoc.
