Ex-village chief, 5 others face illegal gambling raps

ROXAS City – Six persons, including a former village chief, were arrested in two separate anti-illegal gambling operations in Barangay Barra, a police report showed.


Officers from the Roxas City police station caught the 49-year-old Abel Olmedo, 29-year-old Carlito Matizano and 73-year-old former Barangay Barra village chief Enriquito Matizano while they were playing majong on Monday.


Recovered from them were gambling money worth P354, a majong set, and a table.
On the same day, the police also arrested Julieta Torres, Vivian dela Cruz and Elna Bucayan while they were playing the card game tong-its.


Recovered from them were a deck of playing cards and gambling money worth P424.50.
The suspects were facing charges for violation of Presidential Decree 1602, which prescribes stiffer penalties on illegal gambling./PN
