BACOLOD City – What caused a pawnshop security guard to run amuck in Barangay 1, Bais City, Negros Oriental? Police said it was “family problem.”
Palawan Pawnshop security guard Noel Eregil, 41, of Barangay Okiot, Bais City fled after he fired at his wife Jocelyn, his wife’s brother-in-law Mario Rodriguez, 42, and Rodriguez’s 8-year-old son around 5:40 p.m. on Jan. 12, a police report showed.
Jocelyn, Rodriguez and the boy did not sustain any serious injury, only scratches, police said.
Eregil, who is assigned at the pawnshop’s branch along Aguinaldo Street, was about to end his shift when Jocelyn, Rodriguez and Rodriguez’s son arrived on board a motorcycle.
That was when Eregil pointed a gun at them, said the police.
Some witnesses reported to the police but when the officers arrived, Eregil already escaped.
Bais City police arrested Eregil at his house in a follow-up operation later that day.
Police confiscated from him a .38-caliber firearm with serial number 9059013 loaded with five live bullets.
Eregil was detained at the Bais City police station lockup facility./PN
