BACOLOD City – Two farmers’ organizations in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental have received funding for their projects from the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The projects, worth P300,000, were funded under the Bottom-Up Budgeting.
Codcod Agrarian Reform Community Cooperative (CARCC) and Bagonbon Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Irrigators Association (BARBIA) were carrying out community-based organic-input production projects.
The funding to be handed to CARCC chairman Cesar Salas and BARBIA president Gilbert Juanillo was coursed through the San Carlos City Agriculturist’s Office.
Of the budget, P250,000 was from the DA Region 6 while P50,000 was from the San Carlos City government, said City Agriculturist Devitt Dollosa.
The projects involve the production of vermicast and organic concoctions for the commercialization and promotion of organic farming, according to the local government’s information office.
Half of the amount will be spent on vermi-farm building, while the other half will be for the organic input production, said Dollosa.
Salas and Juanillo assured that cooperative members will be given priority in the use of organic fertilizer for organic rice and vegetable farms.
Both organizations also plan to sell organic fertilizer to generate additional income. (PIA/PN)
