BACOLOD City – Fire engulfed a makeshift bunker at the camp of the Philippine Army’s 12th Infantry Battalion (12IB) Delta Company based in Barangay Carabalan, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.

The cost of damage reached some P1.2 million, investigation showed.

Private First Class Filmore Lomogan owned the bunker, Fire Officer 1 Junver Villaruz said.

Lomogan was on patrol duty at the time the blaze hit the bunker made of light materials around 6 a.m. on Sunday, said 1st Lieutenant Brad Adaptani, 12IB commander.

Among those damaged were radio communications equipment worth P850,000, and the bunker, firearms and bullets worth P350,000.

Fire investigators were still determining the cause of fire as of press time. They were looking into a possible electrical short circuit.

Firefighters from the local Bureau of Fire Protection office put out the fire./PN
