ROXAS City – Firefighters respond to not only fires but medical emergencies as well.
They extend help during vehicular incidents, drowning and other health-related incidents, and search and rescue operations.
“We go out of our way to assist in other emergencies,” said Marlon Garbo, information officer for the local Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) office.
Under its Emergency Medical Service, the BFP trains personnel on basic emergency response.
“Some fire officers also assist mothers who give birth even before they could reach a medical facility,” Garbo said, citing one such mother from Dumarao, Capiz.
While fire prevention campaign and fire suppression are their main line of work, they “go out of comfort zones” to “help in the total preservation of life,” the bureau official said. (PIA/PN)
