THREE Ilonggo players were hailed winners in the Rizal Day Chess Championship at the Ice Chess Center in Gaisano Capital mall in La Paz, Iloilo City.
Matthew Garcia topped the 18 and Under category. Joshua Lawrence Tanate, Reynald Tejero, John Christopher Padios, and Monique Donnamarie Escaran followed suit.
For finishing in the top three, Garcia, Tanate and Tejero received cash prizes along with a mug and a certificate each. Fourth and fifth placers Padios and Escaran had a mug and a certificate each.
Kith Haniel Magoliman, meanwhile, was the champion in the 12 and Under category. Fern Albert Falle, Save Yiel Magoliman, Jaril Gallego, and Kian Andrew Tutanes finished second to fifth places, respectively.
Just like in the 18 and Under, the 12 and Under top three finishers Kith Magoliman, Falle and Save Magoliman took home cash prizes, a mug and a certificate each, while Gallego and Tutanes had a mug and a certificate each.
In the Parents and Coaches category, Michael Cawa took the championship while Lemon Magoliman and Raymart Gallo settled for second and third places, respectively.
