MANILA – Global FC could end up losing its Philippines Football League (PFL) license following its failure to settle financial obligations with its players and staff within the 10-day deadline.
PFL commissioner Mikhail Torre said the Global FC issue will now be elevated to the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), which will decide on whether they will strip the football club’s license.
“The PFL has given Global FC an ultimatum and an opportunity to make good on their promise until last Monday,” Torre said. “But they failed to do it so the league has to take appropriate action.”
“The league will relay the information to the PFF first instance body that will convene and discuss the status of the club,” he added.
The issue on salaries is nothing new for Global. Former players also complained of not being paid when the club was still based in Cebu City and even when it transferred to Makati last year.
Mazinyi Management Ltd. – a Hong Kong based consortium – was the new owner of the Global FC after it was sold by its former owner Mark Jarvis earlier this year. The former powerhouse football club was first owned by Philippine Azkals manager Dan Palami./PN
