BACOLOD City – Officers of a transport network company operating in Bacolod have met with Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on transportation, to show interest in partnering with the city government in making a new route system for public utility vehicles (PUVs) in the city.
A new PUV route system is under the provisions of the national government’s PUV modernization program, which aims “to make public utility vehicles safer, more convenient, more comfortable, and environment-friendly.”
PUVs under the modernization program include buses, jeepneys, cabs, and public utility vans.
Grab Philippines public affairs head Leo Gonzales and Grab Philippines-Bacolod manager Jocelyn Yoshida presented to Ramos their proposed version of the new PUV route in the city yesterday.
The local government unit of Bacolod City has the final say in making the new route system.
“Grab is very serious in supporting the government in its PUV modernization program,” Gonzales said.
Gonzales told Panay News that their meeting with Ramos was only “initial.” He added that they plan to meet with other city officials.
Gonzales said they also want to meet with jeepney operators in the city.
“Kabalo kami nabudlayan ang jeepney operators to get support to modernize their jeepneys,” he stressed. “We want to come in as their partner.”
Gonzales said they are concerned about the jeepney drivers and operators.
“Grab is not competing with them,” he added.
Grab is Singapore-based technology company that offers ride-hailing and logistics services through its mobile app./PN
