JORDAN, Guimaras – Vice Gov. John Edward Gando is open to being vaccinated in public against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
It is a way to encourage hesitant Guimarasnons to get vaccinated against the disease, he explained.
“Anytime, once puede na kami, once it is available… mapa-vaccine ako in public,” said Gando.
This is also a way assure Guimarasnons that COVID-19 vaccines are safe, he stressed.
Gando commended Dr. JC Rahman Nava, special consultant for hospital concerns of the provincial government of Guimaras, and Cong. Ma. Lucille Nava, also a doctor by profession, for setting a good example to Guimarasnons by having themselves recently vaccinated in public against COVID-19 using the Sinovac vaccine.
Guimaras initially received last month 100 doses of Sinovac vaccine against COVID-19 from the Department of Health (DOH). Then it got 100 more doses of AstraZeneca vaccines.
Gando acknowledged that some people, even some healthcare workers, are hesitant of getting vaccinated due to fears of possible side effects.
There are over 500 healthcare workers in Guimaras. They work at the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital (DCGNPH), Buenavista Emergency Hospital and Nueva Valencia District Hospital.
Gando said interest to be vaccinated is improving.
“At first daw may mga hesitation but subong sige-sige ang campaign sa kabarangayan sa pagpa-intindi para mas ma-encourage sila,” he said./PN
