“SISA,” an upcoming film that marks the acting comeback of Hilda Koronel after a 14-year hiatus, is scheduled to hit Philippine theaters in March 2026.
The IdeaFirst Company confirmed that the film will premiere on March 4, as it released the trailer showing a glimpse of Sisa braving through the horrors of the Philippine-American War.
Based on the trailer, Koronel plays the eponymous Sisa, a madwoman wandering around a barren town. She does not know her name or where she came from, although it turns out to be a cover-up of her true identity as a spy seeking revenge.
“Hindi mo alam kung ano ang kayang gawin ng isang babae (You don’t know what a woman can do),” the trailer’s description read.
In a Deadline report, the film’s director, Jun Robles Lana, said “Sisa” is a film that tells the story of marginalized women challenging traditional gender roles.
“This story elevates the voices and experiences of marginalized women, challenging traditional gender roles and highlighting their crucial role in resistance movements,” he said. “Despite the brutality and oppression they face, the characters in the story demonstrate the resilience and unwavering spirit of the Filipino people in their struggle for freedom and self-determination.”
“Sisa” made its premiere at the Black Nights Film Festival in Tallinn, Estonia, in November 2025.
