JANUS Del Prado has been dealing with backlash from netizens after claiming that the wedding cake of Carla Abellana and Dr. Reginald Santos looked like something that came out of a funeral wake.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, Del Prado said Abellana and Santos’ wedding cake looked like a coffin, adding that it was a cake meant for the dead.
“Cake! Bat mo kami iniwan! Sisiw na lang kulang,” he said.
“‘Yung cake ang inorder mo pero wake ang binigay,” he said in the comments section.
The actor’s post caught Abellana’s attention, which led her to explain that the cake was “beautiful” for her and her husband, and the guests enjoyed it anyway.
“Masarap naman at fully edible. Pati guests nag-enjoy. Para sa amin, maganda siya at ‘yun ang importante (It’s good and it’s fully edible. Even the guests enjoyed it. For us, it’s beautiful and that’s what’s important),” she said.
However, Del Prado seemingly didn’t take the “Shake, Rattle & Roll” star’s remarks lightly, as he went on to accuse a certain newlywed of having his content demonetized.
While he didn’t mention Abellana’s name or anyone else in particular, the post was put out shortly after the actress’s response on Instagram.
“Maldita pala talaga tong si bagong kasal. Pina-mass report yung page ko ngayon naka hold ang monetization. To your new husband, ingat ka diyan sa napili mo. remember that she dragged all her exes name into the mud,” he said. “Wag na wag kang magkamali. Hay. Yun lang napikon ka na? Over react much? Best wishes. Sana tumagal kayo kahit six months lang.”
However, Del Prado ended up deleting his cryptic post. On Facebook, he pointed out that he ended up taking them down while accusing netizens of not having a funny bone in them.
“Ayan binura ko na. Bahala kayo sa buhay niyo ang bababaw niyo (There, I deleted it. I’ll let you live your lives. You are no fun),” he said.
Del Prado ended up getting backlash for his hurtful remarks against Abellana and Santos, especially since they had just gotten married. While some accused the actor of being an “attention seeker,” others reminded him to “think before hitting post.”
The Kapuso actress has yet to respond to the “A Second Chance” star’s fresh set of posts as of this writing.
Abellana and Santos — who tied the knot last December — chose to go for a sheet cake (also known as a slab cake) instead of the traditional layered cake. According to Cake Decorist, it is a type of cake defined by its flat and single layer.
