ROXAS City – No major incident occurred in Capiz during the yuletide.
The Christmas and New Year celebrations had been “generally peaceful,” said Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, provincial police director.
While there were firecracker-related injuries, there was none caused by stray bullets, and there was no reported case of illegal discharge of firearms, he said.
Most of the incidents reported to the police during the recent holidays were vehicular accidents and commotions among families due to drunkenness, said Nacion.
No fires caused by firecrackers were recorded, according to Marlon Garbo, information officer of the Roxas City fire station.
The Philippine Army has not received any report on soldiers indiscriminately discharging their service firearms, said Lieutenant Colonel Leonardo Peña, commander of the 61st Infantry Battalion.
Fifty-one firecracker injuries were recorded in Capiz from Dec. 21, 2016 to Jan. 3, 2017, most of which were caused by the prohibited piccolo, Provincial Health Office data showed. (PIA/PN)
