ILOILO City – The continued spike in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases is taking a toll on the city’s healthcare system.
Hospitals are running out of beds, prompting the city government to make use of hotels for mild and asymptomatic patients.
“Our hospitals are so full… Some hotels are being used for mild and asymptomatic patients duly supervised by their doctors,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
As of May 31, Treñas said 195 COVID-positive people were waitlisted for hospital admission.
Also, a total of 383 Ilonggos are currently staying in the city’s quarantine facilities while at least 208 are being quarantined at home.
Data from the Department of Health in Region 6 showed that Iloilo City had 1,629 active cases.
This city remains under modified enhanced community quarantine until June 15.
“We are asking for the cooperation of everyone as we continue to mitigate our rising COVID-19 cases,” Treñas said./PN
