Tangalan is a fifth-class municipality with 15 villages in Aklan.

KALIBO, Aklan – The House of Representatives has approved on its third and final reading a bill that seeks to declare July 31 of every year as the ‘Tangalan Day.”

House Bill No. 6252 declared the date a special local holiday in Tangalan, Aklan for the commemoration of the Vivo Revolt heroes in 1987.

The holiday also celebrates the separation of Tangalan from Makato as it became a town through Republic Act285, which former president ElpidioQuirino signed on July 31, 1948.

“The people of Tangalan will be able to rekindle the fortitude of concord among the townfolks as exemplified by the hero of Vivo,” said Rep. Carlito Marquez who authored the bill.

Barangay Vivo, a mountainous area in Tangalan, is one of Aklan’s significant historical sites.

“It is a perfect moment to remember the victory of Vivo residents who plotted against the [Spanish] soldiers in a dinner intended for the latter and massacred them all when they were drunk,” Marquez said.

He stressed that the bill is aimed at Tangalan attaining“self-determination among grateful local heroes and recognize the heroism and noble aspiration of [its] forefathers.”
