Illegal structures in Bacolod demolished

BACOLOD City – Structures owned by illegal settlers in Barangay 12 were demolished yesterday.

Led by the City Legal Office (CLO), the demolition triggered tension in the area with some villagers complaining they have yet to find a relocation site.

Village officials led by Barangay Captain Jay-R Alcantara came to settle the standoff. They made the CLO enforcement team agree to spare some valuables owned by the settlers while the latter were made to assist the former.

Barangay Kagawad Jerry Agosto said the CLO enforcement team also agreed to help in transporting salvageable materials owned by some affected settlers who already found a relocation site in Purok Arao, Barangay Vista Alegre.

As of this writing, 14 residents have been relocated while 14 others were still housed at Barangay 12’s village hall.

The demolition was ongoing. Some 29 illegal settlers who would also be affected by the demolition have already processed their relocation papers.

The area where the structures are located is prone to flood. Last year, the city government advised residents to relocate to spare their lives from danger./PN
