THE Iloilo Business Club (IBC) hosted the 4th National Conference of Independent Business Organizations (NCIBO), an event which offered business experts, entrepreneurs and the private sector in general a platform to identify critical issues that concern the Philippine economy, last Nov. 11.
This year’s conference focused on a wide range of issues that drive national growth, most notably energy security, infrastructure development, agricultural investment and globally competitive industries. What tied them all together was the Duterte administration’s policies and whether or not the issues discussed during the conference will be resolved or achieved by the end of president’s term of office.
Key speakers for the event included Dr. Bernardo Villegas, Senior Vice President of the UA&P, Undersecretary Raoul Creencia of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Secretary Alfonso Cusi of the Department of Energy (DOE), Assistant Secretary-Visayas Hansel Didulo of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Secretary Ramon M. Lopez of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Aside from the main speakers, members from the various participating business organizations also offered their thoughts and ideas about the topics discussed during the conference. Ma. Luisa Segovia of the IloIlo Business Club, offered her thoughts on how the government’s infrastructural projects could help to boost the business environment not only in Iloilo but for the country as a whole.
Furthermore, President Duterte also released an official statement for the conference which emphasized his administration’s 10 point socio-economic agenda in relations to the concerns that were raised during the conference, including policies that lead to inclusive growth, dynamic, flexible employment arrangements, regional tripartite wages, a moratorium on land conversion, the introduction of reforms to land administration and many more.
One of the speakers, undersecretary Raoul Creencia, was particularly optimistic about success of the conference. “I’m learning a lot from the speakers, and I congratulate the organizers. It is a healthy exercise in gathering our business groups to learn about our common missions and goals,” Creencia said./PN
