ILOILO – The provincial government is now officially a grand slam winner of the Seal Good Local Governance (SGLG) from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Acting DILG chief Catalino Cuy, in a letter to Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr., stated that the province “met the upgraded criteria for 2017” of the SGLG.
This is the third SGLG of the provincial government, having won its first in 2015 and its second in 2016.
“I don’t want to brag but earning the seal for three consecutive years gives us bragging rights — bragging rights that we have excelled,” said Defensor.
The 2017 criteria included the four core areas of Financial Administration, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection, and Peace and Order.
“Additionally, the provincial government passed the parameters for all of the following essential areas: Business Friendliness and Competitiveness, Environmental Management, and Tourism, Culture and the Arts,” according to Cuy.
Winning the SGLG entitles the province to access to the Performance Challenge Fund, issuance of Good Financial Housekeeping Certification to facilitate bank loan approval, and several other program windows.
“These honors recognize our journey towards good local governance by upholding the standards of transparency, integrity and service delivery,” said Defensor in his State of the Province of Address (SOPA) on Oct. 24.
It was in that occasion where Defensor first disclosed, citing initial information from the DILG, that the Province of Iloilo won the SGLG for the third time.
