Ilonggo Abadiano joins Batang Gilas in FIBA U-17

MANILA – Ilonggo guard Gerry Abadiano will be part of the final Batang Gilas lineup competing in the FIBA U-17 World Cup from June 30 to July 8 in Rosario, Argentina.

The incoming National University Bullpups player disclosed to Panay News he was part of the team that flew to Argentina to prepare for the week-long tournament.

“It is flattering to be part of the lineup,” Abadiano said. “But the work is not yet done for me. I will try to do my best to help the national team in the competition.”

“It is also a dream come true for me to represent the country in an international competition kaya hindi ko sasayangin ang opportunity na ito,” added the Iloilo City-native.

Joining the former St. Robert’s International Academy Panda Rockets standout in the national U-17 roster are his Bullpups teammates Carl Tamayo and Terrence Fortea as well as Bismark Lina and Migs Pascual.

Other players are Kai Sotto, Raven Cortez, Rafael Go, MacLaude Guadiana, Shawn Jeffrey Chiu, Christian Calimag, Forthsky Padrigao, Jerick Bautista, King Balaga, Yukien Andrada, and Joshua Lazaro.

The 16-man roster will still be trimmed down to 12 by Batang Gilas head coach Michael Oliver a day before the competition starts with the four others being relegated to reserve list.

Batang Gilas earned the qualification to the FIBA U-17 World Cup following its fourth place finish in the FIBA U-16 Asian Cup held last March in China. They will open their campaign against Croatia (June 30) followed by France (July 1) and Argentina (July 3)./PN
