ILOILO City – Stakeholders in Iloilo city and province vowed to support the government’s antidrug campaign.
A simultaneous signing of covenants was held yesterday in Molo district here and Pototan (3rd District), San Enrique (4th District) and Barotac Viejo (5th District) towns.
Around 200 local government officials, businesspeople, religious leaders, and homeowners’ and vendors’ associations signed the covenant here, said Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines, Iloilo City Police Office spokesperson.
Reverend Father Esperidion Celis, Molo parish priest, and city government officials led the signing at Molo church.
Curiously, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Rep. Jerry Treñas were not round.
City Administrator Hernando Galvez, representing Mabilog, delivered a speech.
“We are happy to get support from different sectors,” Sangrines said.
Under the covenant, those who signed it vow to help expedite efforts and cooperate in the fight against illegal drugs, and achieve goals within the period set by President Rodrigo Duterte and the Philippine National Police.
In case of noncompliance or falling short, they will be held accountable to the people and to the President, the covenant stated.
Local government and school officials, among other stakeholders, participated in the signing in the province.
Senior Superintendent Arnel Escobal, deputy regional director for administration; Senior Superintendent Alfredo Valdez, deputy regional director for operations; and Iloilo Police Provincial Office director Senior Superintendent Roderick Augustus Alba signed on behalf of the Police Regional Office 6.
“The covenant recognizes the campaign against illegal drugs as a priority of the government, and states the individual commitment of each participant and the accountability of those who do not adhere to [it],” said Alba./PN
