DUMAGUETE City – Some 130 Muslim religious scholars from across the country attended the zonal maswara or johoor – a prayer meeting and seminar – in Dauin, Negros Oriental.
The two-day activity, from Oct. 26 to 27, encouraged participants to “echo” what they have discussed to their families when they return home.
The participants were from Iligan, Zamboanga del Sur, Lanao del Norte, Pagadian City, Ozamis City and Central Visayas, among others.
Johoor is off-limits to women.
The activity was previously held in just one setting nationwide.
This time, however, it was divided into 11 zones due to lack of venue.
Major General Jon Aying – commander of the 3rd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army based in Jamindan, Capiz – was one of the guest lecturers during the johoor.
Aying thanked the Muslim community for inviting him as guest lecturer.
Aying said the invitation implies that the Muslim community has “confidence in the military to provide them protection and security.”
Aying stressed that there must be peaceful co-existence and respect for every religion in the area.
Aying assured that for as long as there is mutual understanding and respect, the military will protect Muslim communities. (PNA/PN)
