ILOILO City – Eight sachets of shabu and an ice pick were recovered from a prison cell during an unannounced inspection at the Iloilo District Jail (IDJ) in Barangay Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo.
The inspection was led by IDJ’s new warden, Superintendent Jhon Montero.
The shabu and ice pick were found at cell No. 51 where 50-year-old drug suspect Marque “Boboy” Acap Sr. was detained.
But Acap was not the sole occupant of the cell; there were other inmates.
At the time of his arrest last year, Acap was considered a high-value drug target of the police.
The inspection was carried out around 11 a.m. on Sunday.
“We are now investigating how the shabu and deadly weapon were able to enter IDJ. We are very thorough in frisking visitors,” said Montero.
He did not discount the possibility that the contrabands were slipped through the IDJ fence in an area where inmates were gardening.
Acap, a suspected subgroup leader of slain drug lord Melvin Odicta Sr., was arrested on Sept. 20, 2016
in Barangay Cagbang, Oton, Iloilo.
According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6, Acap was convicted for murderer many years back and served time at the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa City. It did not discount the possibility that the suspect may have established ties with drug lords operating in the prison facility while in detention.
A notebook recovered from Acap during his arrest contained the name “Colangco” and a cell phone number, according to PDEA.
On July 7, 2016, President Rodrigo Duterte named Herbert Colangco as one of the biggest drug lords in the country. He was actually referring to Herbert Colanggo, a convicted leader of a notorious robbery group.
Colanggo is currently serving a life sentence at the national penitentiary but admitted during a House inquiry last year that he ran drug trafficking operations inside the New Bilibid Prison.
At the time of his arrest, the regional police and PDEA ranked Acap No. 4 in their list of suspected drug personalities in Western Visayas./PN
