AKLAN – A fire destroyed a boarding house in Barangay Andagao, Kalibo town on Sunday, November 1, leaving one man injured and destroying four motorcycles, including a big bike owned by the caretaker’s son.
Initial estimates from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Kalibo placed the property damage at over P600,000. Fire Officer 3 Pedrito I. Nagamos II, arson investigator for BFP-Kalibo, stated that the final damage assessment could still increase depending on formal declarations from the property owner and affected boarders.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the blaze originated in Room 2, which was occupied by a live-in couple. Electrical appliances, including a Wi-Fi router and a refrigerator, were reportedly plugged in inside the room at the time.
The tenants were temporarily out to go to a relative nearby and returned to find their boarding house already engulfed in flames.
Firefighters immediately responded to suppress the blaze. As of this writing, the BFP-Kalibo was still investigating the incident to establish the exact cause of the fire./PN
