Sen. Lito Lapid spearheaded the distribution of family food packs to 750 fishermen in Limay, Bataan on Thursday, August 22, 2024.
In his speech, Lapid stressed the need to assist fisherfolks affected by the oil spill from the sunken ship at Lamao Point, Limay, Bataan recently.
On August 6, Bataan Governor Joet Garcia declared a state of calamity due to the oil spills caused by three oil tankers that sunk into the sea where up to 28,000 fishermen were affected and lost their jobs.
The sunken ships were MT Terra Nova in Limay, MT Jason Bradley and MV Mirola 1 in Mariveles, Bataan.
The beneficiaries welcomed and thanked Lapid for the assistance they received.
Limay Mayor Nelson David, Vice-Mayor Richie Jason David, Brgy. Chairman Nestor Nabaunag and Sangguniang Bayan members also expressed gratitude to Lapid for the quick response to assist the fishermen who lost their jobs due to oil spills in their town.
Lapid also distributed family food packs to 1,000 fishermen in Mariveles, Bataan on August 21, the senator’s birthday.
Mariveles Mayor AJ Concepcion sought Senator Lapid’s help for the fishermen in his town.
