BACOLOD City – An 80-year-old man from Barangay Bo. Obrero, Lapuz district became the 12th person in Western Visayas succumbed to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The Patient No. 679 was part of the 77 new COVID-19 confirmed cases that the Department of Health Region (DOH) 6 reported Wednesday, bringing to 688 the region’s tally.
He died last July 7 – a week before he was found positive for the viral illness, according to Jane Juanico, head of the Infectious Disease Section of the DOH-6.
The elderly man started to manifest symptoms like fever on July 3 and eventually had loose bowel movement and shortness of breath.
“He was immediately brought to one of our COVID-referral facility,”Juanico said.
She added that the patient had swab specimen taken last July 6, but died the following day. It was not stated if the casualty had any underlying condition.
“I was informed today by a family member that the patient was cremated immediately,” Juanico said.
The number of deaths was relatively low in terms of the 679 recorded COVID-19 cases in Western Visayas, which is comprised of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.
