ILOILO City – Former councilor Nielex Tupas said he was not interested to become the city’s vice mayor. But he declined to say what elective post he was targeting.

Cong. Jerry Treñas had said Tupas was one of several personalities he was considering as his successor in the Lower House.

The congressman plans to run for mayor in next year’s midterm election. According to Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon recently, Treñas had chosen him as his running mate.

Tupas said he has yet to make a final decision vis-a-vis the 2019 polls.

He previously said he would be announcing his “biggest political decision” in the month of August, his birth month.

Tupas, son of the late Iloilo governor Niel Tupas Sr., turned 39 years old on Aug. 11.

“As to the position of congressman, I thank the people of Iloilo City for the strong and warm support but I have no final decision at this time,” he told Panay News.

Tupas served as city councilor for three successive terms (2007-2010; 2010-2013; 2013-2016).

He was deemed a strong vice mayoral candidate for the 2016 election but opted to accept then President Benigno Aquino III’s appointment of him as executive director and chief operating officer of the National Youth Commission./PN
