ANTIQUE – A live-in couple was found dead in their home, drenched in blood, after being shot by unidentified assailants in Barangay Pili 1-2-3, Hamtic town at around 9 p.m. on June 24.
The victims were identified as aliases “Angelita”, 31, a native of Tubungan, Iloilo, and “Jonathan”, 51, a resident of Barangay Pili.
According to PLT Sirlan Mabaquiao, deputy chief of the Hamtic Municipal Police Station, the victims were drinking tuba (coconut wine) with a relative while watching a video on a mobile phone when an unidentified gunman suddenly barged into the house and opened fire.
A gunshot was first heard from the direction where Jonathan was seated. When the companion checked, Jonathan was already lying on the floor, wounded. Moments later, another gunshot rang out, hitting Angelita.
Both victims died on the spot from gunshot wounds. Angelita sustained injuries to the chest and face, while Jonathan was hit in the body and head.
The suspect immediately fled the scene in an unknown direction. A spent cartridge from an unidentified firearm was recovered at the scene. The area, police said, was dimly lit and isolated, with no nearby houses, making it difficult to track the attacker’s escape route.
Angelita’s family, still in disbelief, plans to bring her remains back to Tubungan, Iloilo. Jonathan’s body will remain in Barangay Pili 1-2-3.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and have launched a hot pursuit operation to identify and apprehend the suspect/s behind the fatal shooting./PN
