THE 31st Kadayawan Festival proved to be a notch higher than previous celebrations. Davao is now in the limelight thanks to President Rodrigo Duterte, but more than that, Davao has long been a gem of the Philippines because of several iconic symbols like the highest peak, Mount Apo; the king of fruits, durian; the queen of tropical fruits, mangosteen; and our national bird, the Philippine Eagle.
Kadayawan is a weeklong event that is celebrated every third week of August, and traces its origin from the harvest celebrations of the indigenous people of Davao.
Kadayawan evolved since then, and it now reflects both the past, and present. Today, this festival not only celebrates Mindanao’s rich culture and heritage, it also commemorates the city’s transformation into a bustling commercial and industrial hub. This year’s festivities showcased Davao’s produce and wealth. The streets were abuzz with activities, and there were plenty of food strips, expos and bazaars to choose from. Likewise, flowers and fruits covered the celebration floats, while tourists and locals alike flocked out onto the streets to get a feel of the festivities.
Burst of colors could also be seen in the Indak Indak sa Dalan, a dancing competition that is open to the residents of Davao and the nearby provinces. Each participant depicts one of Davao’s various tribes, and the sound of their gongs and drums echoed throughout the city’s main thorough fares, as the dance competition gets underway. Truly, Life is Here.
Parallel to the celebration of good harvest, MX3 participated in simultaneous activities. MX3 sponsored ABS-CBN and GMA shows and gave free shirts to guests. Gift packs were also handed out during games. One of the crowd drawers were Sakit Mo I Arte Mo. This is a group game where contestants act out various common diseases.
MX3 also conducted a motorcade led by the MX3 Bigfoot, which was a hit among the young and old alike. MX3 is one with the city in its celebration as the brand is home-grown and many of its loyal users are from Davao. From its humble beginnings, MX3 now is a household name and is recognized internationally. DMI – MX3 attributes all its success to the one only source of our blessings, God almighty. /PN
