BACOLOD City – Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) undersecretary Jesus “JV” Hinlo wanted to help in solving the theft and robbery incidents in the city.
Last week, Hinlo met with Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), to give inputs on how to address the issue threatening the city’s peace and order situation.
Hinlo, who heads the public safety sector of the DILG, advised Wanky to strengthen legal offensives and provide a good case build-up in preparing criminal complaints against arrested suspects.
“Make sure the complaints against the suspects are air-tight, especially those who are recidivists,” said Hinlo.
Hinlo, a lawyer, also told Wanky that the BCPO must “closely coordinate with and seek guidance from” the Prosecutor’s Office.
He said the Philippine National Police and the Prosecutor’s Office are partners in fighting crime.
The BCPO must also organize seminars for its investigators and personnel.
Hinlo explained that these seminars will help the investigators and personnel “refresh their minds about the basics of their functions.”
The DILG official suggested inviting speakers from the National Prosecution Service and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for additional input.
Hinlo also reiterated the putting up of regular checkpoints in strategic areas, especially that the city is celebrating the MassKara Festival.
He believed that the BCPO must send a “strong signal” that will make criminals fear the police and will assure the public that they are protected.
Hinlo said the BCPO must regain the trust and confidence of the community.
The public must also be made aware of the contact numbers of the 10 police station in the city.
Meanwhile, Wanky and Mayor Evelio Leonardia met with several managers and representatives of call center companies operating in the city on Sept. 30 at the Bacolod City Government Center.
