AKLAN – A stabbing incident inside the barangay hall of Bulabud, Malinao town led to the death of a 45-year-old man yesterday morning.
Malinao police said Sherwin Retiro, a resident of the town’s Barangay Rosario, sustained multiple stab wounds on the different parts of his body.
He was rushed to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, police added.
The suspect was identified as Dandy Opeñano, also a resident of the barangay.
According to barangay officials and treasurer of Bulabod, Retiro and Opeñano had an initial talk at the barangay hall last week and both reached a settlement that Opeñano will pay Retiro P2,300 for punching the latter’s son.
Barangay officials revealed that the suspect hit the victim’s son after seeing the latter together with his daughter.
However, police said Retiro went back to the barangay hall yesterday to report that he has yet to receive the money from Opeñano, but the suspect suddenly arrived and stabbed the victim.
Police Captain Christian John Nalangan of the Malinao police station said the suspect voluntarily surrendered to one of the officials of Barangay Kinalangay Viejo after the incident.
He is now detained at the custodial facility of Malinao police station./PN
