ALEXA Milliam proved she is one of the fast-rising tennis players in Western Visayas when she notched titles in the Bacolod City leg of the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala regional age group on Monday at the Panaad Tennis Courts.
The 12-year-old Milliam, a native of La Carlota, Negros Occidental, captured the championship in her pet events 12-and-Under and 14-and-Under before also topping the 16-and-Under.
Milliam beat Jasmin Jaran 6-1, 6-0 in 12-and-Under before clobbering Jufeann Cocoy 7-5, 6-1 to top 14-and-Under. And then she ruled 16-and-Under at the expense of Shyryn Salazar 6-0, 6-4.
Bacolod City’s Reynan Mahusay, meanwhile, split his events. He defeated Cesar Po 7-5, 6-1 to top 16-and-Under boys before losing to Dumaguete City’s Reyniel Marcellana 6-1, 7-6 (5) in 18-and-Under.
In other singles finals, Cedric Bravo edged Fern Po 3-6, 6-1, 10-4 for the 14-and-Under title; Khenz Justiniani routed Ais Pacheco 6-2, 6-0 in 12-and-Under; Giovani Dimate upended Louchella Estembar 4-1, 4-2 in 10-unisex; and Jewel Milliam held off Salazar 7-5, 6-3 in 18-and-Under girls.
Meanwhile, the teams Kiana de Asis-Salazar, Karl Baran-Fernando Po, Jezel Gavituya-Alexa Milliam, Pern Po-Pete Rodriguez, and Dimate-Louchela Estember were the doubles winners.
Asis-Salazar nipped the Milliam sisters 8-7(3) while Baran-Po edged Marcellana-Vhon Tudtud 8-6 in 18-and-Under.
Po-Rodriguez shaded Cedrix Bravo-Raven Quinto 8-6 while Gavituya-Milliam downed Meryll Banista-Areetha Rodriguez in 14-and-Under.Dimate-Estember routed Audrey Leyson-Alex Fernandez 8-1 in 10-and-Under./PN
