ILOILO City – Fisherfolk in Western Visayas affected by super typhoon “Yolanda” in November 2013 have received P300 million worth of aid from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 6.

The assistance was in the form of patrol boats and fishing gears and equipment.

More aid will pour in before the year ends, according to BFAR regional director Remia Aparri.

“We will finish our assistance program for fishermen affected by the super typhoon this year,” said Aparri.

Next month the BFAR Region 6 will distribute 81 fiberglass boats to fishers in northern Iloilo.

The time it took to build these boats delayed the distribution, Aparri said.

Just this Thursday, the BFAR and the Iloilo provincial government distributed 180 sets of boat-making materials – wooden hull, plywood, paint, among others – to “Yolanda”-affected fishers in Carles and Estancia towns./PN
