ILOILO City — Police have formally filed a murder charge against the at-large suspect who shot and killed a construction worker during a wake in Barangay Dulonan, Arevalo district late Sunday night, Sept. 20.
Iloilo City Police Station 6 (ICPS6) commander Police Major Mavin Laraño confirmed that the complaint was officially lodged on Thursday morning, Sept. 24, against the suspect, known by the alias “Ladrin.”
Investigations revealed that revenge was the primary motive behind the killing. According to Laraño, the suspect’s brother was stabbed to death in May this year, with the victim’s nephew named as the main perpetrator in that earlier incident.
Police records show that the victim, identified as alias “Opok,” had returned home just two days prior to the incident. On Sunday, around 10 p.m., while playing cards at a nearby wake, Opok was spotted by the suspect, who immediately approached and shot him point-blank in the face.
Witness accounts, including testimony from the victim’s sister, alias “Leslie,” detailed that the suspect fired an additional shot to the side of the victim’s head as he attempted to flee.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead while receiving medical treatment due to severe head injury.
The suspect fled the scene armed with the weapon used in the crime and remained at large. As of this writing, police were still conducting hot pursuit operations to locate and arrest the suspect./PN
