MANILA – Joshua Junsay captured six gold medals to lead San Beda College Sea Lions to its 16th straight NCAA seniors’ swimming title at the Rizal Memorial Sports Center.
The native of Silay City, Negros Occidental won the 200m and 400m freestyle, 100m and 200m butterfly, and 200m and 400m freestyle relays. He also had silver in 1500m freestyle.
Junsay, who also represented the Philippines in the Summer Universiade games in Taipei last year, also pocketed his third consecutive Most Valuable Player award.
His spectacular performance underscored Sea Lions’ capturing its 21st overall title in the seniors’ event on Monday as it swept all three divisions, including women’s and juniors’.
Sea Lions amassed 1,517.5 points – way ahead of College of St. Benilde Blazers with 477, Arellano University Chiefs with 311, Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals with 205.5, and Lyceum Pirates with 148.
Sea Lionesses, meanwhile, garnered 1,323.5 points to snare its seventh straight crown. CSB Lady Blazers placed second with 805 points followed by Arellano Lady Chiefs with 207.
Jose Mari Arcilla towed Sea Cubs to its 23rd championship in the juniors’ side with 1,058 points while Manuel Victor Perez hauled five gold medals to power Jose Rizal to a third-place finish in the high school event.
