Negros Occ. to face Iloilo in secondary girls volley finals

NEGROS Occidental and Iloilo are set for a rematch in the finals of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2019 secondary girls volleyball finals this morning.

Negros Occidental earned the right to defend its crown after whipping Antique, 25-9, 25-18, in the knockout semifinals match on Wednesday afternoon at the CPC Engineering Department in Arnaldo Boulevard in Roxas City.

Joan Marie Monares, Alyssa Bertolano and Shane Carmona stood tall for Negros against the Antiquenos in the opening set before allowing its second stringers to wrap up the second frame.

Iloilo, on the other hand, got its bearings back just in time as it cruised to a 25-20, 25-17 victory over the Aklan squad behind the collective efforts of Elisha Apostol and Chrisann Susbilla.

Prior to the semifinals game, the Ilonggas were on a losing skid after surprisingly losing to Aklan, 25-10, 10-25, 12-25, on Tuesday afternoon before bowing to Negros on Wednesday morning, 23-25, 9-25.

In secondary boys volleyball action, Negros Occidental also reached the gold medal round after beating Antique. The other semis between Iloilo and Aklan are still ongoing as of press time.

Meanwhile, Negros Occidental clinched the gold medal in secondary girls sepak takraw after defeating Iloilo in the championship round, 21-11. Iloilo, however, ruled the secondary boys event after a 20-17 win over Negros Occidental in the finals./PN
