BACOLOD City – NOPSSCEA-Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts retained the secondary girls volleyball crown in the Negros Provincial Meet 2019 at the Montalbo’s Residence Covered Court here.

Alyssa Bertolano, Joan Marie Monares and Shane Carmona took turns on the offensive end yesterday as NOPSSCEA toppled Area 3, 25-10, 25-17, 25-9, to clinch its fourth consecutive tiara.

Bertolano and Monares spearheaded NOPSSCEA’s first set assault. They quickly jumped to a double digit edge to widen the advantage to as high as 15 points.

It was almost the same scenario at the onset of the second period with Bertolano conniving with Carmona. Area 3 tried to made a run but could only come to as close as eight points.

The Thunderbolts went for the kill in the third set. They turned a 5-3 score to a 21-6 spread behind Bertolano and Carmona. They capped off the match with a 4-3 run.

Meanwhile, NOPSSCEA’s St. John’s Institute Baby Falcons also emerged as champions in the elementary girls volleyball on Wednesday at the University of St. La Salla Gym in Bacolod City.

Led by opposite hitter Trisha Anne Borromeo, the NOPSSCEA representatives clinched the championship after defeating Area 3 in straight sets, 25-21, 25-23, in the gold medal game.

Earning the right to represent Negros Occidental in the WVRAA Meet slated next year in Aklan is a huge achievement for the Baby Falcons after failing to advance to the Provincial Meet the last two years./PN
