BACOLOD City — A 46-year-old man listed as the Negros Island Region’s (NIR) No. 4 regional most wanted person was arrested in a manhunt operation in Gapan City, Nueva Ecija, on October 27.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) identified the suspect only as alias “Sid,” a caretaker and resident of Barangay Nangka, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental.
Personnel of the Bayawan City Police Station, under the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, arrested the suspect in Barangay Bayanihan, Gapan City, with assistance from the Gapan City Police Station.
Police said the arrest was carried out by virtue of warrants for qualified rape of a minor and two counts of acts of lasciviousness.
According to authorities, the suspect allegedly sexually abused his minor stepdaughter on several occasions while the victim’s mother was away working as a housekeeper.
Police also alleged that the suspect threatened to kill the victim and her mother if the child disclosed the abuse, causing the victim to fear reporting the incidents.
Following his arrest, the suspect was informed of his constitutional rights and placed under the temporary custody of the Gapan City Police Station pending the completion of documentation and appropriate legal proceedings.
PRO-NIR Regional Director Brig. Gen. Rudecindo L. Reales underscored the importance of sustained manhunt operations and coordination among police units to ensure that wanted persons are arrested and brought before the courts.
The regional police office said it would continue strengthening law enforcement operations and implementing arrest warrants to ensure that individuals facing criminal charges are brought before the proper authorities./PN
