Sagay mayor orders review of patient care concerns at city hospital

BACOLOD City — Sagay City Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva has ordered a review of concerns raised by a parent regarding the medical care provided to her child at the Alfredo E. Marañon Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Negros Occidental.

In a public statement issued on October 26, Cueva said the city government is examining the incident to determine what happened and whether appropriate medical procedures and patient care standards were observed.

The mayor said he had scheduled a meeting with the hospital administration and concerned personnel within the week to review the circumstances surrounding the incident, including available medical records, the care provided, and the concerns raised by the child’s family.

“I want to express my sincere concern for the child and the family involved,” Cueva said, acknowledging the anxiety parents experience when their children become ill and questions arise about their medical treatment.

He also expressed hope for the child’s recovery and assured the family that their concerns were being heard and taken seriously.

Cueva stressed that every patient deserves compassionate, attentive, and respectful treatment, emphasizing the city’s responsibility to ensure that residents receive quality healthcare.

He said appropriate corrective measures would be implemented through established procedures if the review identifies shortcomings in the delivery of medical services or compliance with hospital protocols.

At the same time, the mayor recognized the dedication and sacrifices of doctors, nurses, and other hospital personnel who serve the community under demanding conditions.

He emphasized that healthcare workers must also be treated fairly and respectfully throughout the review, allowing the process to establish the facts before any conclusions are reached.

“As mayor, I remain committed to ensuring that our public hospital is a place where Sagaynons can seek medical care with confidence, knowing that their health, safety, and dignity are valued,” Cueva said.

He appealed for public understanding while the review is ongoing, assuring the public that the privacy of the child and the family, as well as the rights of the hospital personnel involved, would be respected.

The review is expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the reported incident and determine whether further action is warranted./PN
