MANILA – NLEX Road Warriors is going for Kiefer Ravena at No. 2 in the PBA Rookie Draft this Sunday unless Kia Picanto or San Miguel Beermen changes its mind on who to pick at No. 1.
That Road Warriors is taking the Ateneo Blue Eagles star will not be a surprise except if Picanto or Beermen decides to pass on Filipino-German Christian Standhardinger, said head coach Yeng Guiao.
“We have already decided weeks before that we will be selecting Kiefer Ravena,” Guiao said on Thursday. “It’s hard to pass on a good player like Kiefer, who will really be helpful to our team.”
“Sigurado naman kasing gagamitin ng Kia iyong No. 1 pick nila kay Standhardinger,” said the seven-time PBA champion coach. “Malabo naman siyang umabot sa amin dahil No. 2 kami.”
The 23-year-old Ilonggo made a great impression during the two-day Draft Combine where he topped the speed, agility and vertical leap tests, outperforming some of the taller rookie prospects.
Ravena also proved his readiness for the pro ranks when he led the A-2 Team to championship in the mini-tournament, where he was also hailed the Most Valuable Player.
“If ever NLEX picks me, I’m excited to be under coach Yeng,” Ravena earlier said. “I’ve talked to coach Yeng a couple of times, so hopefully everything pans out. If ever I go No. 2, I’ll be with him in NLEX.”
“For us rookies, as long as we get our foot inside the PBA, we’ll control what we can control, which is how we play, and that is giving 110 percent for the team that will pick us,” he added./PN
