DE LA SALLE University Lady Spikers stayed unbeaten in University Games women’s volleyball after defeating Arellano University Lady Chiefs 29-31, 25-15, 25-19, 25-14 at the Valencia covered court.
Led by Kim Dy, Ernestine Tiamzon and Desiree Cheng, Lady Spikers recovered from a shaky first set on Wednesday to dominate Lady Chiefs with double-digit spreads in the second, third and fourth sets and remain on top of Bracket B with a 3-0 win-loss card.
Defending champion University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses also kept its unbeaten record with straight-set triumphs over Silliman University and University of Mindanao-Tagum.
In athletics over at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex, Louielyn Cabuga Pamatian spearheaded the campaign of UST Tigresses as she bagged five gold medals.
Pamatian, a native of Bago City, Negros Occidental, topped the 400m, 800m, 1500m, 4x400m, and classical relay events. UST Tigresses is currently on top in the event with 16 gold medals.
In men’s football, University of St. La Salle (USLS) Bacolod advanced to the semifinals following a 2-1 victory over De La Salle University Green Booters at the Gov. Mariano Perdices Memorial Coliseum.
Kenneth Infante and Harunori Aoki scored a goal each in the opening half for USLS, which will battle College of St. Benilde Blazers in the knockout Final 4 game.
University of the Philippines Maroons, meanwhile, bounced back from its loss to USLS with an 11-0 rout of the injury-hit Foundation University. Kintaro Miyagi top-scored for Maroons with six goals./PN
