MANILA – Filipino-German Christian Standhardinger will not be disqualified from the PBA Rookie Draft on Sunday at the Robinson’s Place in Ermita district, the PBA Commissioner’s Office said.
The Gilas Pilipinas center has long asked permission to skip the Draft Combine on Monday but will surely attend the Draft ceremony, PBA Commissioner Andres Narvasa said.
“(Standhardinger) asked for permission to miss the event,” Narvasa said. “He is not the only one actually. Those NCAA players who have games on Tuesday also did the same.”
Standhardinger also allayed fears of PBA fans, saying his absence in the pre-Draft event was made known to Narvasa.
“Hi guys, everything is good! It is understood that I am officially under contract in Hong Kong, so I could not be at the PBA Draft Combine,” Standhardinger wrote on Twitter.
“My agent already informed PBA officials in advance. Looking forward to seeing you all at Draft Day!” he added.
Standhardinger was being tipped to be the top overall pick following his impressive showing for the national men’s basketball team during the FIBA Asia Cup and the William Jones Cup.
But the big man will not be serviceable to the team that will draft him due to his commitment with Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions in the ASEAN Basketball League, which lasts until April next year./PN
