BACOLOD City – One of the two inmates who escaped Negros Occidental District Jail (NODJ) in Bago City, Negros Occidental on Sunday has been recaptured.
Ramon Ventura Jr., 20, of Murcia town was caught in Barangay Handumanan in this capital city, said Jail Senior Superintendent Hernan Grande, director of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Negros Island Region.
Rearrested on Monday, Ventura was detained over a carnapping charge, according to NODJ warden Chief Inspector Ruth Estales.
Vercilito Capulong, 26, remained at large as of this writing. He was charged with illegal possession of firearms.
Both inmates were detained in the NODJ in September 2015.
Jail guards were making rounds when they noticed the two inmates were missing, Estales said.
They did a head count and confirmed Ventura and Capulong were gone.
Initial investigation showed the inmates used a ladder, left behind by workers, to escape the detention facility.
As a result, Estales was relieved and reassigned at the BJMP regional office. Superintendent Larry Fuentes replaced her.
A manhunt operation against Capulong is ongoing as of this writing./PN
