MANILA – National University-Nazareth School Lady Bullpups moved closer to clinching the UAAP Season 82 girls’ volleyball crown after a 25-13, 25-17, 25-23 sweep of Adamson University Baby Falcons in Game 1 of the finals at the San Juan Arena.

Alyssa Solomon top-scored with 22 points, with 11 coming in the third set, while Evangeline Alinsug added 16 markers, on 12 spikes, three service aces and a block, for the Bullpups.

Erin May Pangilinan and Barbie Jamili combined for 15 points. Guimarasnon setter Camilla Lamina tossed in 18 excellent sets while Negrense libero Shaira Jardio wound up with 18 digs and 18 receptions.

Extending its perfect run to 13 matches, the Lady Bullpups can reclaim the title it lost last year in Game 2 of the best-of-three series on Sunday afternoon.

“I appreciate lahat ng efforts ng team. Sa ngayon we are just playing all heart, wala na kaming pinoproblema kasi lahat naman kami pagod. We are just very grateful to be here,” said Lady Bullpups coach Regine Diego.

Up by just a solitary point in the second frame, 14-13, the Lady Bullpups exploded with an 11-4 run, highlighted by four crosscourt attacks by Solomon, to gain a 2-0 set lead.

In boys volleyball, National University-Nazareth School Bullpups moved one win away from back-to-back titles after eking out a 25-21, 20-25, 25-19, 25-18 victory over Far Eastern University-Diliman Baby Tamaraws.

Michaelo Buddin led NU’s offensive attack with 17 points built on 13 spikes and four blocks while Arvin Bandola tallied 16 points and 11 excellent receptions in just three sets of play./PN
