ILOILO – Beneficiaries in Western Visayas will receive more than 4,000 free land patents from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) this year.
A total of 2,728 residential land titles and 1,750 agricultural land titles will be distributed.
Of the residential free patents, 406 will go to Aklan, 893 to Antique, 150 to Capiz, 281 to Guimaras, and 998 to Iloilo, data from the DENR Region 6’s Licenses, Patents and Deeds Division showed.
Meanwhile among agricultural free patents, 700 are for Aklan, 400 for Antique, 200 for Capiz, 150 for Guimaras, and 300 for Iloilo.
In 2016 the DENR Region 6 exceeded its targets on free patent issuance. It posted 103.89-percent and 115.22-percent accomplishments for residential and agricultural patents, respectively.
The DENR said its Patent, Processing and Issuance program has been instrumental in alleviating poverty among rightful claimants.
It promotes social equity and gives beneficiaries the chance to benefit from their lands, said the department.
Regional Director Jim O Sampulna hopes that they again surpass their targets this year.
He gave President Rodrigo Duterte credit for their accomplishment. “We have improved our performance because of his good leadership,” he said on Friday. (PNA)
